2017 Pre-Season Survey Review

The fantasy season has been over for a few weeks now, and withdrawal symptons are beginning to emerge. To quench my keeper league hunger I thought I would go back and have a look at the responses to our pre-season coaches survey.

A couple of key takeaways:

  • We’re not very good at foreseeing the future.
  • Nobody predicted the eventual grand final matchup. In fact nobody thought Champs 16 would make a return to the granny, and only Alex foresaw Stranger Danger would make an appearance.
  • It’s no surprise then that nobody predicted the premier correctly.
  • The Minor Premiership is one area we did excel in, with 5 people correctly predicting Paul’s Defenestrators.
  • We also weren’t too bad at predicting the teams that would miss the finals – though a few of us thought the runners up would miss the finals entirely.

Only one person predicting an outcome was a recurring theme throughout the survey:

  • Greg was the only coach to predict the wooden spoon winner correctly.
  • Greg was also the only one to nail all four ladder bottom feeders.
  • Buzz was the only coach to predict the highest round scorer (Rico’s Roughnecks).
  • I was the only coach to nominate at least one of the eventual Dangergawn Medal winners (Tom Rockliff got a lot of love here…)

Way off:

  • Nobody predicted Tom Mitchell would average the most point across the season, or that he would be the highest scoring midfielder.
  • Nobody predicted the highest scoring defender (Docherty) correctly – though in fairness Adams was only just behind. Special mention for Jordan and his Brent Stanton selection….
  • Nobody predicted Matthew Kreuzer would be the highest scoring ruckman. Which probably explains why he was available in the pre-season draft
