GAME OF THE ROUND

With apologies to the Defenestrators and the Vipers in the third v fourth matchup, I’ve opted for the Sparkles v Midnight game. TLM, under a new name and new management, have been the surprise packet to start the year, finding themselves undefeated after three rounds. Harry Sheezel is the greatest player in AFL history. It’s all gravy so far this season. I don’t know if this team gets together to howl at the moon after victories, but if they do, they’ve done that three times now. Can they make it four?

The Sparkles had a stumble in round one, but have since recorded two consecutive victories. Luke Davies-Uniacke should be back, and they’ll be hoping he can replicate Tom Stewart’s performance in his return last week.

Can the team anointed most likely to challenge the Soldiers continue their streak and reaffirm that pre-season prediction? Or will Threat Level Midnight set down an almighty marker?

SNEAKY INTERESTING MATCHUP

Paul called it in the Discord, 9th v 10th is the sneaky interesting matchup. Reasons are obvious – the outcome may have looming implications for who ultimately takes home the spoon this year. It’s too early in the year for these teams to actively try to lose this game…. right?

STRAY OBSERVATION

It is astonishing to see the Chiefs in 9th. They were Preliminary Finalists last year (and indeed, seemingly every year). There hasn’t been that much list turnover (at least, not yet*), but they can’t buy a score so far this year and, if their trade declarations are anything to go by, they seem resigned to that continuing.

*obviously written before this afternoon’s blockbuster….

ELIMINATOR

The Chiefs had dodged some bullets in the opening rounds, but finally tripped up in round 3 with their 1529.

Round 1: Te Puke Pukekos
Round 2: Taxmanian Devils
