I couldn’t let this pass without comment. Last week we had two players feature in game 100 and oh boy did they put on a show.
- Ed Curnow (Defenestrators) – 24, tried to single handedly sink the Defenestrators
- Callan Ward (Love Sparkles) – 38, got himself suspended
GAME OF THE ROUND
Could flip a coin to decide who gets GotR and SIM this week, but giving this one the edge. After a hot start Threat Level Midnight have lost 3 on the trot, and have the Soldiers waiting for them in Round 8. A loss here could have them on the outside looking in heading into the byes.
The Roughnecks are 5 and 1 and sitting a top the ladder. Can they keep the good times rolling?
SNEAKY INTERESTING MATCHUP
If we get the more venomous version of the Vipers, then this is clearly the game of the round. Their topsy turvy scoring keeps me guessing though, and losing Touk doesn’t help. Nonetheless, their best can take it up to anyone, and their opponent has a habit of bringing out the best in others…
The Soldiers have lost two on the trot. What a strange sentence to type. I doubt they’re worried, as it’s taken two commanding performances to topple them, and they have a healthy advantage in the ‘Points For’ column. But 4 losses is typically the max permitted to earn a top 2 finish in our league, and a third here wouldn’t leave them with much wriggle room for the rest of the year.
STRAY OBSERVATION
The league might be the deepest it’s been since our inaugural season. The Chiefs fell just shy of toppling the more fancied Sparkles last week. The Devils have strung two wins in a row since their unfortunate start to the season, and MaherShalalHashBaz is putting up solid, if unspectacular, scores most weeks. There aren’t many easy wins on offer.
ELIMINATOR
The Vipers escaped by 8 points in round 5, but couldn’t escape again last week with their 1626.
Only four teams remain – Roughnecks, Sparkles, Defenestrators and Soldiers.
