GAME OF THE ROUND
No clear cut, bonafide match of the round in my view this week, so I’m going Roughnecks v Devils.
The Devils have jumped into 6th position on percentage, and with Threat Level Midnight coming against the Soldiers this week, they have a real chance to solidify that finals position.
Last week the Devils only scored 25 points less than the Roughnecks. In Rounds 6 & 7, they outscored the Roughnecks. The Roughnecks have been slippery so far in 2023, just doing enough most weeks to snare victory. Can the Devils end that run?
SNEAKY INTERESTING MATCHUP
Vipers get the sneaky nod again, this time owing to their matchup with the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have been frisky in recent weeks, defying their current ladder position. They’ve outscored the Vipers over the past fortnight.
Meanwhile, the Vipers are struggling. After a monster 1899 in their victory over the Defenestrators in round 4, they’ve failed to score more than 1680.
Finals competition is hot this year. There is going to be at least one very disappointed team. The Vipers will need to turn around their scoring sooner rather than later if they’re to avoid that disappointment.
STRAY OBSERVATION
Several of the league’s best players so far this season play for bottom four teams. English at Pukekos. Marshall, and the current highest scorer in Clayton Oliver at the Chiefs. Tom Green at MSHB. Every team has some serious scorers.
ELIMINATOR
The Roughnecks fall this week, their 1853 not enough to save their scalp.
Down to the Defenestrators, Sparkles, and Soldiers now.
