GAME OF THE ROUND
The Soldiers dispatched one of their primary competitors last week. Can they dispatch another?
The Soldiers have a two win + percentage buffer at the top of the ladder, and a win over the Defenestrators this week would all but secure the minor premiership.
Not to compound the bad news, but it’s not a good week for the Defenestrators to draw this matchup. Both the Giants and the Roos are on the bye, putting a fair dent in their forward and midfield stocks.
It’s hard to see a Defenestrator victory come Sunday night, but if a victory were to eventuate, it would be among their finest.
SNEAKY INTERESTING MATCHUP
Two games right in the mix for this, and you could probably flip a coin to decide.
I’ve opted for MSHB v the Devils. These two teams are within a game of one another, and the Devils are coming off a devastating loss in last week’s sneaky interesting matchup.
Truth be told the Devils are here for the taking. Both the Giants and the Blues are on the bye. This has gutted their midfield. MSHB are also affected in the engine room with Green and Callaghan out, but it’s small fry compared to the collection the Devils have collecting dust this weekend.
A win for MSHB draws them level, and, if the Vipers can triumph over Threat Level Midnight in the round’s other intriguing matchup, then we’ll have three teams on square footing, fighting for one place. Juicy.
STRAY OBSERVATION
I mentioned it before, but Vipers v Threat Level Midnight is very interesting. The Vipers are still smack in the middle of the field, two games behind the leading pack, two games in front of those chasing.
But TLM have scored around 330 more points so far this year than the Vipers. For a few seasons now, the Vipers have been the hot and cold poster child for the league, capable of mammoth scores, and dud ones. Are TLM gunning for this unofficial title? Their highs are high – they’ve broken the 1800+ point barrier 5 times this season. But they’ve dropped some winnable ones, including their last matchup with the Vipers where the could only manage 1559 to the Vipers’ 1626.
