GAME OF THE ROUND

I am obliged to pick this. It’s 1st v 2nd.

But I, er, do not fancy the Roughnecks’ chances. It was nice knowing you, second spot on the ladder.

SNEAKY INTERESTING MATCHUP

These two teams scored within 30 points of one another last week, with the Devils emerging triumphant in a big win over the Roughnecks in last week’s SIM.

That win launched them into sixth spot, yielding yet another change in the hot seat.

All three competitors have tricky matchups this week (sidenote: Threat Level Midnight really can’t drop their game against the Chiefs this weekend), but that does present a massive opportunity for those currently in the hot seat. If results go their way, they could open up a two win gap with just three more games to play.

STRAY OBSERVATION

I’m extrapolating on that sidenote. Midnight v Chiefs is probably the true SIM, with Devils v Sparkles the true match of the round.

The end of the home & away season is now in sight, and there aren’t that many more opportunities to make up ground. A loss here could prove calamitous, which would be disapointing for me as a neutral observer because boy howdy has the remaining fixture fallen in oh-so-juicy a fashion for the rest of us.

Threat Level Midnight face both MaherShalalHashBaz and the Taxmanian Devils in the next 3 weeks, with a positively timely sojourn down Pukekos Avenue sandwiched in the middle there.

The Devils have a succession of tough games to come, with the Defenestrators following the Sparkles this week, then the Vipers for good measure. Their game advantage over MSHB may prove invaluable.

MSHB face a similarly tough road. The red hot Vipers this weekend, then TLM, followed by the Soldiers, before finishing the home & away season against the often frisky Chiefs (who just quietly loom quite large in this final month, in terms of matchups that will impact final placings)

We’re staring down the barrel of a fascinating final month. Second spot is very much up for grabs. Sixth spot is very much up for grabs. Most of the teams doing the grabbing face each other during this period. Have your popcorn at the ready.
