Season Summary
A year that was mostly planned as a development year, the Chiefs were not expecting to play finals in 2024. The natural development of this young core, alongside the unexpected poor form of the Vipers and Threat Level Midnight however, opened the door for a return to finals much quicker than anticipated. The team doesn’t appear ready to challenge the top teams yet, however this season has shown both Mark and the league as a whole that this list will be a serious contender in the not too distant future.

Most Inspired Selection
Pick 142 – Jack Ginnivan
A change of scenery has done wonders for the player that best demonstrates the Hokball mentality in Jack Ginnivan. He went over 20 points per game higher than his previous career high, and shows no sign of slowing down as the Hawks look to go bigger than in 2024. Given he was picked in the 15th round, there may have been some luck involved, however you can’t argue with results, and Ginnivan should be on the Chiefs list to stay as we enter 2025.
Honourable mention to Gryan Miers in the 2nd round. A few eyebrows were raised at this pick, but he proved all the doubters wrong.
Trades
| Date | Teams | Received |
|---|---|---|
| 4 April 2024 | Miles Bergman Roughnecks Round 4 pick | |
| Tim Kelly Puttanesca Chiefs Round 9 pick | ||
| 4 April 2024 | Cam McKenzie Taxmanian Devils Round 5 pick | |
| Jayden Short Puttanesca Chiefs Round 6 pick |
The Chiefs weren’t expecting to accomplish much this season, and so went to the trade table twice (on the same day) to bring in a couple of younger players and some draft picks, in exchange for some veterans. Tim Kelly and Jayden Short both served the club well (2 premierships to Kelly, 1 to Short), but the time was right to move on and look towards the next dynasty.

Player to watch in 2025
Tom De Koning
It must be hard to be a back up ruck on the Chiefs list. Brodie Grundy dominated the position of R1 for years, and then as soon as he was gone, Rowan Marshall went and won the Dangergawn medal in that position, leaving De Koning stuck in the emergency role.
That should all change in 2025 as it looks like the utility position will be coming back into the mix for our league. At 25 years old, he’s ready to enter his prime as R1 at Carlton, and able to share the fantasy field with Marshall. An injury interrupted year still averaging 87, he could well take a step up to a 100 average over the next 2 seasons.
