Summary
Getting Jordan Dawson single-handedly saves the grade here.
There weren’t many strong scorers here, and beyond Dawson, it’s hard to argue there was much of a contribution to the Roughnecks 2019 season here. Duggan, Florent and Drew, drafted in consecutive rounds, were packaged early in the season in a deal to the rebuilding Vipers in exchange for Pendlebury and Kade Simpson. Both were mainstays in the 2019 team – so those three draftees perhaps made a bigger contribution than the table above suggests.
Grabbing a prominent ruck prospect in English, and another interesting prospect in Smith, means this draft might also look better in a season – or three.
But it’s hard to look beyond the fact there aren’t many high scores here. Fisher, Masten, Hibberd and Francis all disappointed. The later three clearly meant to flesh out the team’s defender rotation, but were all dropped from the list entirely.
