Introducing your All-Australian team for the 2025 season.
Last year’s outfit had 8 first time All-Australians. The 2025 squad has gone one better with 9 first timers – Lachie Ash (Pukekos), Max Holmes (Chiefs), Matt Rowell (Midnight), Noah Anderson (Sparkles), Matthew Kennedy (Devils), Luke Jackson (Devils), Kysaiah Pickett (Pukekos), Hugh McCluggage (Sparkles), and Sam Darcy (MSHB).
The 2023 squad had 8 first timers, and the 2022 squad had 9. A handy reminder that fantasy ebbs and flows, and there are always new jets just around the corner…
The return of the utility spot was unsurprisingly a boon for the ruck position, with four making the team thanks to a duo of Roughnecks occupying the utility spots on offer.
Speaking of the Roughnecks, they were agonisingly close to having the line leader in each part of the field. Wanganeen-Milera took the defender crown, and Bailey Smith was comfortably the number one forward. Jordan Dawson finished just shy of Nick Daicos to claim the ‘Midfielder 2’ slot, and Brodie Grundy’s roaring second half of the season saw him fall just short (.69 points per game) of perennial rival Max Gawn for the Ruck spot.
Grundy’s form sees him earn his 7th All-Australian nod after a 3-season absence. Lachie Whitfield, himself having once taken a 3-season absence, claimed his 4th gong (2019, 2020, 2024, 2025)
Zach Merrett held on to make his 9th All-Australian team, keeping him one clear of Max Gawn, who made his 8th appearance. These two are right up there in the player of the decade conversation.
Only one forward from last season’s team managed to make a repeat appearance, Puttanesca Chief Gryan Miers.
The Defenestrators technically don’t have a rep, having traded Gawn to MaherShalalHashBaz on the eve of the finals. He’s been recorded here as a Defenestrator though given he played almost the entire season for them.
Finally, it was the second straight season of the Soldiers not having a representative. Will they change that in 2026?
